Sterling Hike: Beavers on Ice

Join Doc Bayne, educator and environmentalist, for an approximately 3-mile hike to the site of a beaver lodge. Along the way, Doc will discuss what he has learned about the beavers here in Sterling Forest. If the ice is safe, we will walk on the ice out to the lodge and get an “up-close and personal” view of the beavers’ sanctuary. Crampons are recommended for walking on the ice.

Troops present each day are: Saturday - the 5th New York Regiment, Sunday - Lamb's Artillery and the Morgan Rifle Corps, and the 4th Connecticut Regiment, and Monday - the 5th Connecticut Regiment. Admission for all three days is FREE, though donations are appreciated.



Support for the George Washington Birthday Celebration is provided by the Friends of the State Historic Sites of the Hudson Highlands, Palisades Interstate Park Commission and Palisades Parks Conservancy.

Join avid outdoorsmen, Andy Mills and Fred Isseks, as they describe the geography/topography and history of Dennings Point, Bannermans Island, Forts Montgomery/Clinton, Gomez Mill House, Cold Spring Foundry, and Washington’s Newburgh Headquarters. They will describe aspects of kayaking the Hudson and will inform the audience as to kayak access points/boat ramps. Refreshments will be available. Please call(845) 351-5907 to reserve a seat!
