Ladies In The Spotlight at Washington
March 25, 2016
A large audience turned out to celebrate Women’s History Month at Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site. The General’s Lady, held on Sunday, March 13th, paid tribute to both the impact of noteworthy historical women, and to contemporary women making a difference in the field of history and preservation in the Hudson Valley.

Speaking at the event was Dr. Jennifer Dorsey, Associate Professor of Early American History at Siena College and Director of Siena College’s McCormick Center for the Study of the American Revolution. She excited attendees with tales of how putting college students to work on historic research projects with “real world” relevance benefits both the students and the public historic sites by promoting historic research, historic education and civic engagement.

The program was capped off with a heartfelt presentation of the 2016 Martha Washington Woman of History Award to Denise Doring VanBuren. Ms. VanBuren (History Advocate/Author) is the fourteenth recipient of the award recognizing a local woman’s outstanding contribution to Hudson Valley history.
